Welcome to the Greensboro HIVE!

The Greensboro HIVEHistory, Information, Vision, and Exchange. The HIVE is a collectively-run not-for-profit community space located in the historic Glenwood neighborhood of Greensboro, North Carolina. The space is run according to the broad principles set out in the founding Vision Statement. [More information...]

A diverse mix of Greensboro residents spent over a year planning and organizing The HIVE. Its purpose is to provide a space and facilities for communities within Greensboro and the surrounding area to develop stronger and deeper social connections, engage in substantive dialogue, and explore progressive social and democratic change.

Partnering with us are the Fund for Democratic Communities, Sustainable Health Choices, the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, Food Not Bombs, the Bike Me! Collective, the American Friends Service Committee, and Them5, all of whom maintain offices (and work areas) at The HIVE. [More information...]

The center of The HIVE is our main room which is available to community groups and organizations for both public and private events. Since opening our doors on October 1, 2007, The Hive has hosted film screenings, community dialogs on race, politics, ecological and energy sustainability, collective living, grassroots democracy building, and much much more. The Vision Statement provides the guidelines for event hosting at The HIVE. [Event calendar]

Kitchen Update

The Food Not Bombs kitchen at the HIVE is right on schedule! The countertops are in and are in the process of being tiled (thanks to the many people who stepped up with ceramic tile), we've had the unexpected donation of two new electric stoves, the sink is in and waiting to be plumbed, a woodworker is very generously making us a beautiful maple butcher block rolling work table. It's gorgeous! Come by the HIVE (1214 Grove Street) sometime during HIVE drop-in hours (12-6 Monday-Friday) or on our Sunday workday (12-4) to see our progress. More photos will be posted here.

The time has come for us to install the last of our major appliances and we'd love some help. We are looking for a sturdy standard-sized dishwasher (any color) and a standard-sized refrigerator (preferably white), both in good working condition (they'll be getting a lot of use!). We will be happy to pick them up, or meet you at the HIVE at your convenience.

Please get in touch with me if you have either item to donate, or know of someone who is getting rid of a dishwasher or refrigerator and would be willing to let us have it.
